GEORGETOWN, KY (February 9, 2016) – The 36th Annual Festival of the Horse located in historic downtown Georgetown will be held on the new dates of September 9-11, 2016. Live music, activities, food, dance, carnival rides and other family fun have been scheduled for the weekend including the Scott County Humane Society Pet Parade on Sunday.

For the third year, a subcommittee of the Georgetown/Scott County Tourism Commission will be organizing the event. “Festival of the Horse is a team effort and our volunteers work tirelessly to bring this community event together,” said Executive Director Lori Saunders.

The Festival celebrates the longstanding equestrian tradition in Scott County. The Kentucky Mounted Patrol and Colt & Filly Review Parade will take place on Friday, followed by the Toyota Grand Parade of Horses and Experience the Horse/Horse Games on Saturday. The Horse Show will take place on Sunday.

The Festival kicks off with the Fireman’s Chili Cookoff on Thursday, September 8. All proceeds from the Cookoff benefit Toys for Tots, an organization whose mission is to provide a new toy at Christmas to less fortunate children.

The local variety dance band, Swing Street, will return to perform Thursday evening. Featuring four distinctively different lead vocalists, Swing Street plays the greatest dance hits from the past and present.

New this year, the Festival hours are 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Vendors must be present in their booths and remain open until 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Vendors are welcome, but not required to stay until the close of the concerts. Booth spaces will be offered on both sides of Main Street from Mulberry to Water Streets.

The Festival is seeking local Arts & Crafts vendors. The Festival Committee will carefully screen all applications. Exhibitors must submit three photographs of the items to be sold, as well as a photograph of the booth. Crafters may share a booth, but each is required to submit photographs.

“We are committed to organizing a quality event that meets past expectations, but also includes some new features that will enhance the experience for residents and visitors alike,” said Saunders.
